Variations in Submodalities

Each of the representational systems (the modalities) has a number of submodalities that alter the meaning of the modality itself. Days, for example may be bright or dark—or hazy or clear. Bright, dark, and other submodalities influence subjective experience.

Discussion Questions

1. Using the exercises on pp. 117 -120, practice eliciting and changing submodalities. Especially change the submodalities of something you like but would be better off not liking to match the submodalities of things you already don’t like. Also, change the submodalities of something you don’t like much at the moment to match the submodalities of things you enjoy.

   Report on your results.

2. Do the same for another person. For both yourself and the others, pay particular attention to location.
