Reviews: Books About Energy Medicine

In developing Subtle Communication Systems, we have read literally hundreds of books and articles, some of which have had a profound impact on our thinking about communication, the human energy field, and holistic therapy. We will use this section of the Website to provide reviews and “minireviews” of books that we consider especially important for having influenced our thinking about energy-based healing.

Brennan, Barbara Hands of Light: A Guide to Healing Through th Human Energy Field (1987) and Light Emerging: The Journey of Personal Healing (1993).

Barbara Brennan is one of the best-known healers in the United States today and has established a well-known school (The Barbara Brennan School of Healing). Her background in physics and work as a research scientist show in her books, which do a good job of showing the science that corroborates the human energy field. One of the more interesting concepts in her materials is the idea of psychic defenses and the interaction of energy fields based on them. The books provide comprehensive coverage of detecting, influencing, and healing the human energy field. These are important books, and anyone who wishes to do energy-based healing would benefit from reading them.

Rubenfeld, Ilana The Listening Hand: Self-Healing through the Rubenfeld System of Talk and Touch (2000).

Ilana Rubenfeld developed the “Rubenfeld Synergy Method” as a result of her having received therapy from a psychotherapist who wouldn’t/ couldn’t touch and massage therapist who wouldn’t/ couldn’t talk (or at least say the right things to help). Rubenfeld provides a good overview of and rationale for her method, and the book contains a number of exercises designed to help readers improve their awareness of the human energy field. The Rubenfeld Synergy Method shares a number of significant concepts with SCS.

Stein, Diane Essential Reiki: A Complete Guide to an Ancient Healing Art (1995).

In traditional Reiki circles, Diane Stein is still considered a radical. Reiki had a long history of being passed from Master to Initiate in ceremonies known as “attunements.” This tradition had remained since the introduction of Reiki into the U.S. in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Stein changed that with the publication of Essential Reiki, which includes a thorough explanation of Reiki, working with what is usually called “Reiki Energy,” and the Reiki symbols. This is an important book, not only for holistic therapists, but also for those who have heard the term, “Reiki,” and have wondered exactly what it meant.

These reviews will probably be here for a while. We’re still in the process of getting the Website set up, and the reviews probably will remain the same until we have the rest of the site under better control.

If you have suggestions for books you think should be reviewed here, send the bibliographic information and the reason you think a review would be appropriate to Joel.
