What is Holistic Therapy?	Therapy is said to be holistic when it addresses the whole person, influencing body, mind (intellect and emotions), and spirit. While an intervention that focuses on only one part of the person may spontaneously influence the whole, the whole person is more likely to respond when the intervention includes elements designed to influence body, mind, and spirit. Holistic therapy is often contrasted with allopathic therapies, which focus on fixing problems that have developed in the physical body.
What is Energy Medicine?	Energy medicine, also known as vibrational medicine, is based on the premise that body, mind, and spirit are forms of energy vibrating at different rates. Problems—whether physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual—develop when the energies are blocked or out of balance. The focus of energy medicine is on restoring appropriate energy flow and balance to the entire system. Acupuncture, Reiki, Healing Touch™ and Therapeutic Touch™ are among the best-known systems of Energy Medicine.
What is the Human Energy Field?	The principal components of the Human Energy field, also known as the bio-energy field, are the aura, the chakras, and the meridians. These energy systems are interrelated. What influences one, influences all. The human aura consists of the different layers of vibration generated by an individual’s body, mind, and spirit. These layers are typically called the physical body, the etheric body, the emotional body, the mental layer, and the spiritual layer. The physical body is considered the most dense and the lowest vibration, with each of the subsequent layers being less dense or increasingly subtle. The chakras are energy centers located throughout the body. Although the term is Indian, the seven principal chakras are associated with major organs and nerve centers. A person’s state of health and well-being can be determined by the functioning of the energy in the chakras. The meridians are lines of energy flow throughout the body. Acupuncture and acupressure (and a good massage) work by improving energy flow along the meridians.
What are neurolinguistics?	The term neurolinguistics refers to the way in which language, including the language of nonverbal communication, influences feelings, attitudes, and behaviors. As one of the most effective applications of neurolinguistics, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) is considered a form of brief therapy. NLP refers to the use of language to engage what are usually called the conscious and “unconscious” minds—the rational/logical and the emotional/intuitive aspects of thought, which are often associated with the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
What is Subtle Communication Systems?	Subtle Communication Systems combines the powers of energy medicine and neuroliguistics to help individuals—perhaps including you—achieve rapid, elegant change and improve your health and well-being. Both Joel and Debra have combined backgrounds in Energy Medicine and neurolinguistics. Debra is a certified practitioner of Healing Touch™ and Joel is a certified Reiki Master. Both have studied a wide variety of other systems of energy medicine with an emphasis on finding the commonalities and incorporating them into SCS. Debra and Joel are certified Master Practitioners and Trainers of Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) licensed through NLP Seminars Group International. We are members of The Society of Neuro-Linguistic Programming, founded by Dr. Richard Bandler. The combination of work with the subtle energies and the use of language to influence an individual’s subjective experience allows him or her to implement desired changes in a holistic way: physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Changes can take place quickly because the work is accomplished with the cooperation of both the conscious mind and unconscious processes, including belief systems and memories stored in the body. Subtle Communication Systems is about change, not only the elimination of such problems as phobias, anxieties, and limiting beliefs, but also the transmutation of fear-based emotions (including anger, jealousy, and resentment) into the energies of love and trust. As is true for Healing Touch™, Reiki, and other forms of energy medicine that are contemporary versions of ancient healing practices found in every culture, SCS does not have a specific religious context, and the effect does not rely on the client’s faith or religious belief.
What does training in SCS and NLP provide?	The SCS program is designed to teach you about whole-body systems, including your own. The program begins with an introduction to Healing with Energy (SCS Level 1). The second component is Healing with Language. The third level of training is Healing with Energy and Language. SCS Level 3 is divided into two segments (A & B), with the first being geared toward personal enhancement, and the second being geared to professional practice. Those who complete SCS Level 3B are certified as practitioners and eligible to join Associated Bodyworker and Massage Professionals (ABMP). Reiki training is also available and is typically included in the SCS series on Energy Medicine. We provide instruction and training in two phases, the first being two days of training for Reiki I and II level attunements. Reiki III (Reiki Master Practitioner and Master Teacher) requires additional training. SCS Matters, LLC, also provides Practitioner- and Master Practitioner-level training in NLP. NLP is the best-known and most effective application of neurolinguistics. Developed in the 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, NLP has since evolved into a sophisticated and elegant set of “tools” for changing yourself and others. Those who complete Practitioner or Master Practitioner in NLP with SCS are automatically eligible for certification in hypnotherapy through the American Board of Hypnotherapy.
Would I need additional training?	That depends on what you want to do. SCS practitioners are able to provide energy-based healing. Those who have the additional certification in Pre- and Postsurgical Support are also well-prepared to assist those facing surgery, chemotherapy, dialysis, or other extended medical procedure. People use NLP skills in a variety of ways, including business applications (sales, rapport-building, consensus building), educational applications (teaching and learning), and health applications (not only for correcting problems, but also for enhancing health and well-being).
What are “Fast-Track Specials”?	The Fast-Track specials are designed to give you credit for the certifications you have already earned. Those who are already certified in a recognized aspect of energy medicine (such as Reiki, Healing Touch™, or Therapeutic Touch™) are eligible for credit in the equivalent training in the SCS program. Those who have previously received certification in NLP are eligible for the equivalent credit in the SCS program. Such credit is extended on an individual basis, so if you qualify, be sure to ask.
