Subtle Communication Systems (SCS)

Because SCS began with the combination of energy awareness and with the application of neuroliguistics known as neurolinguistic programming, (NLP), our emphasis has been on enhancing awareness of the subtle communication systems that have the greatest impact on attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors. Although much of our training is context specific and designed to meet the needs of certain occupations, the concepts are universal and influence everything you do regardless of where, when, why, or with whom you do it.

SCS Is Right for You If...

You may have noticed that our Web site is not a typical BUY NOW!!! Website. You are an ideal candidate for training with SCS if you prefer a calm, more reasoned approach to relationships and learning. We will never ask you to lie on a bed of nails or to walk on hot coals. We know that you could learn to do those things, but we believe that you can achieve everything you desire in easier, more subtle ways. We have been offering workshops together for ten years now, and we will continue to have space available in our workshops. If a particular workshop sells out, we’ll schedule another one, so you don’t need to decide right now. We want you to take all the time you need to decide that training with SCS is right for you.

Joel and Debra both have a long history of exploring human excellence. Joel started mastering hypnosis while still in high school. Debra developed a strong sense of spirituality even earlier. Along the way, Debra trained with Janet Mentgen, developer or Healing Touch™ and Joel completed his a Ph.D. with a dissertation entitled Consciousness as Disease in Early Nineteenth-Century English Literature. Although each of our regularly scheduled workshops is designed to meet specific needs, all address the universal human needs to balance both sides of the brain, to bring heart and head into alignment, and to convert internal conflict into harmony, creativity, and productivity.

You may begin by attending a training designed to meet the specific needs of professionals working in the following occupations:

• Sales: We call our approach to sales and persuasion Sell-Buy-Ology. “Sell-Buy-ology” focuses on understanding and influencing your own behavioral patterns and those of others in both interpersonal and group situations. Selling and buying are a natural process and part of what is often called “the dance of Life.” This skill set includes common business applications, such as the buying and selling process, motivation, meeting management, decision-making strategies, and leadership skills. Our approach is that persuasion works best when the buyer and seller both profit. You might find, for example, that one of the benefits is that you can establish rapport quickly, blend desired outcomes easily, and develop genuine and lasting customer relations.

• Education: One of the initial applications of NLP was in education. Classroom Classics is designed to facilitate your using subtle communication strategies to enhance the effectiveness of your teaching and learning, whether in a traditional classroom, a corporate training environment, or such informal environments as family and social settings. Our focus is on the differences that make a difference—in the way you set goals and define objectives, the way you present materials, the way space you used space, and the way you elicit and provide feedback. Workshops

SCS workshops are designed to help you get from where you are to where you want to be. Although all of them include your learning to work with the energy and your developing elegance with language, the specific emphasis changes based on the individual workshop. The SCS Series focuses on Energy Medicine, health, and well-being. The NLP Series focuses on the practical applications of neurolinguistics for positive changes in attitude, beliefs, and behaviors.

The SCS Series

The SCS Series includes the following Workshops:

1. Healing with Energy. Two days of training in the fundamentals of using energetic interventions to promote health and well-being.

2. Healing with Language. Three days of training in using language to promote health and well-being.

3. Healing with Energy and Language. Five days of training on integrating energetic and linguistic interventions to promote health and well-being. Includes intake procedures and forms, business fundamentals, ethics, and insurance. Completion results in SCS Practitioner Certification and eligibility for practitioner-level membership in Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP).

The NLP Options

In an effort to best meet your training objectives, we offer a monthly Super Sunday series designed to provide introduction and ongoing instruction in NLP. This program is designed for those who find attending longer NLP Intensives difficult to attend because of work or family obligations. The “Super Sunday” series also provides review and renewal for those who have completed certification as Practitioner or Master Practitioner of NLP.

We also offer Intensive Workshops designed to provide everything you need to earn certification as a Practitioner or Master Practitioner of NLP in as little as 10 days of concentrated training.

If you’re looking for an introduction to NLP that focuses on specific needs, we have created four distinct workshops, each with a different specific objective. You may elect to enroll in any one workshop as your introduction to NLP and to the skill set for which you have the most immediate need. Successful completion of two workshops in the series and a number of “Homefun” exercises qualifies you for Licensed Practitioner of NLP. If you have previous certification, you would qualify for Licensed Master Practitioner of NLP.

The NLP Series includes the following Workshops:

1. Sell-Buy-Ology. Focuses on selling with integrity and buying intelligently.

2. Classroom Classics. Emphasizes teaching and learning in a variety of settings with children and adults of all ages.

3. Radical Healing: NLP and the Healing of DNA. Covers the use of NLP to promote health and well-being—in body, mind, and spirit—for self and others. Includes Pre- and Postsurgical Support.

4. Relationship Dynamics—Dynamic Relationships. Focuses on understanding and improving relationships from both interactive and metaphorical perspectives, including the influences of archetypal patterns and soul contracts.

SCS also offers you the following special applications:

• Pre- and Postsurgical Support with SCS™. Whether you work in a medical field or because someone you know is facing surgery, chemotherapy, or medical treatment for other serious conditions, knowing what to say and do can make a significant difference.

• NLP and the Healing of DNA with TimeWarp Technologies™. Whether you need significant healing for yourself or desire to have the skill set to provide it for others—or both—this workshop will change your life for good.

• Every Baby a Welcome Baby. The Welcome Baby! CD is designed to create a bond between mom and baby, as well as to encourage positive expectancy about labor and delivery. The scientific understanding of how this works is similar to how “Pre- and Postsurgical Support with SCS” turns normal concerns an individual might have had into soothing images of a good outcome. Because Welcome Baby! is enjoyed throughout the pregnancy, including during early onset of labor, those positive images naturally become anchored along the way.

• Touch for Tots. Covers techniques for relieving common distress in infants, toddlers, and children of all ages, including those with serious illnesses. Research shows that the use of intentional touch by a professional was more soothing for children in hospitals than ordinary touch by a parent. You can learn how you can use this intentional touch and specific techniques to soothe, comfort, help, and heal children. This two-hour workshop is designed for parents, grandparents, nurses, social workers, and professional caregivers. It is packed full of practical applications for relieving pain, eliminating or preventing bruising, healing cuts or scrapes, overcoming and preventing colds or viruses, soothing intestinal or emotional distress, or just helping a child feel loved and safe in any circumstances life can bring.

• Developing Intuition. The introductory workshop is three days and provides guided practice in developing your sensitivity to what is commonly called guidance from your unconscious or “other-than-conscious” mind. The complete five-day workshop includes guided practice in what are typically thought as psychic skills, including trance mediumship.

To ensure that you receive a solid foundation, we have tied what you will learn about Energy Medicine and NLP to traditional, Western medical and psychological models. You will learn not only about the Drama Triangle (Victim, Persecutor, and Rescuer) developed by Dr. Steve Karpman (1968), but also our own additions to that model, the Cognitive Triangle and the Transrational Pyramid, which help you and your family, friends, and clients to recognize the roles being played and the way to move beyond them to a state of awareness and harmony. Earn Certification in Hypnotherapy Through ABH

The NLP curriculum developed by Joel and Debra is approved by the American Board of Hypnotherapy, and SCS Matters, LLC, is an approved school of hypnotherapy. Following your successful completion of NLP Practitioner or Master Practitioner training with SCS, if that designation will be useful to you, you may become a member of ABH and be certified in hypnotherapy.

Receive Credit for Previous Training

We believe that you should receive the credit you deserve for your previous training, whether that training is in neurolinguistics or in Energy Medicine. Many of those who have chosen SCS for their NLP training, for example, have already earned certification in Reiki, Healing Touch™ Therapeutic Touch™ or another form of energy medicine. That combination—the background in energy medicine plus the NLP training—allows you to waive SCS Levels 1 and 2 on your way to becoming an SCS Practitioner and Licensed Trainer of SCS.

Whether your previous training is in neurolinguistics or in Energy Medicine, be sure to check with Joel and Debra about receiving appropriate credit for your training and certification—so that you can get on the Fast Track to becoming a Licensed Trainer of SCS.
