Joel and Debra spent the first week in March 2003 attending Charisma Enhancement™ & Trainer Training with Richard Bandler and John La Valle. This was the 6th time with Richard and John for Joel and the first time for Debra. Participants included about 100 people from 18 countries, with the largest contingencies from Japan and Ireland. The facilitators (who assisted with videotaping and small-group exercises) came from the U.S., the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Ireland.

Backgrounds and reasons for attending the seminar varied. Some were attending to overcome their fear of public speaking, and others were attending because they wanted to improve on well-developed platform skills. The group included NLP trainers, executive coaches, investment counselors, lawyers, corporate trainers, psychotherapists, physicians, chiropractors, and a variety of bodyworkers and energy workers.

Joel’s first training with Bandler and La Valle in 1994 was also a Trainer Training. They were good then. They are even better now. Richard has mellowed and refined his skills. He has become even more the master of installation and other-than-conscious communication. John has also significantly improved his skills over the years, and his trance work in particular was phenomenal.

The workshop began with some initial instructions and demonstrations by Richard, followed by a “baseline” presentation by all the participants. Over the next several days, Richard and John used spatial and visual anchoring, music, humor, metaphor, and a wide variety of advanced language patterns to help the participants increase their sensitivity to the movement, rhythms, and tonal inflections of effective delivery.

Throughout the seminar, participants worked in small groups on spatial and visual anchoring, tonality and vocal inflection (analog marking), inducing and managing state, and the effective use of language. The facilitators, who were all knowledgeable, experienced trainers, worked with the groups to help ensure a good understanding of the concepts and ability to apply them.

Richard typically had one long session each day in which he encouraged participants to use your conscious and unconscious processes to eliminate or bypass your limitations and focus on and amplify your strengths and pleasures in life. John had the responsibility for helping ensure that participants retain conscious memories for those things worth remembering consciously. John also did some elegant trance work designed to reinforce a positive, forward direction with skills, abilities, and enjoyment of life.

That might come as a surprise to those whose perception of Richard hasn’t changed since 1980. Richard and NLP have moved way beyond “Six-Step Reframing,” and he is continuing to change and develop faster, better, more elegant ways of helping you make good decisions about changing in the ways you most desire.

The program is every bit as much about “Charisma Enhancement™” as it is “Trainer Training.” The program covers a lot more than platform and delivery skills; it teaches you how to be more dynamic and charismatic in all aspects of your life.

But a word of warning: If you fear having all your chakras, including the sacral, revved up and opened wide, don’t attend this workshop. When you attend this workshop—or any training with Bandler and La Valle—you will hear a lot of sexual humor. Unless you wandered into this Website by chance, you already know that the sacral chakra governs creativity as well as sexuality, and it is amazing how much your flexibility and creativity can increase when you allow yourself to fully enjoy all that life has to offer. So be prepared to laugh at jokes not yet allowed on U.S. television.
