Debra’s Wellness Tips

According to John Tesh’s “Intelligence for Your Life” if you’re trying to quit smoking rub the skin at the center of your palm and between your index finger and thumb. Researchers found that people who used this technique smoked 25% fewer cigarettes in a month than quitters who chewed gum. The self-massage is designed to distract you from your craving and calm you down.

There is good science behind this.

The patient education department at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center knows a thing or two. This is acupressure point L1-4, Hegu, also called Hoku.

Using your right thumb and index finger, find the space on your left hand between the base of your left thumb and index finger.

Press down on this point for 5 minutes. Use a circular motion. Be firm, but don’t press so hard that it hurts.

Repeat the process on your right hand.

You can perform acupressure several times a day, or as often as needed for your symptoms to go away.

This week, put at least one new wellness practice to use. Share this with others. Everyone can benefit from acupressure. Relieving headaches, lessening pain, and not smoking is just the tip of the iceberg.
