He got a call to pick up his sister and come to the home of their brother and sister-in-law. He knew without asking: his brother had died. (He does not speak about it using that word, though. Speaking as he experiences it, he says, “We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience.” He knew without asking: his brother had completed his transition.
As his brother’s body lay still stretched out on the couch, waiting for the nurse to arrive to pronounce him dead, they began to talk about what they might plan.
As clear as a bell, he heard his brother say, “I don’t want no GD ($$!!) funeral with people bawling. And I don’t want no GD ($$!!) sad music playing. Maybe you can have Chet open Chief’s for a gathering and have a Big A$$ party. If you want to have music play I Did It My Way.”
Then their mother’s voice came into his heart, “Do not play the Frank Sinatra version. Play it by Elvis Presley.”
He did not even know Elvis had done that song, but, sure enough that is how they celebrated his passing from this human life. And sure enough, he knew without a doubt his mother and his brother (as his friend, Pamela Chappell sings) “are somewhere finding more”….
