Healthier Carbs

While most generally suggest a diet lower in carbohydrates is the best way you can enjoy a healthy weight, we need carbs for our bodies and our brains—particularly for mood balance! But not all carbs are created equal, and most processed foods that are high in carbohydrates have been stripped of fiber, the good stuff.

One of the easiest ways to make good choices is to see that you do have a choice. Here are some of the better carbs you can make your choices from:
• Sweet potato
• Beans
• Squash
• Oatmeal
• Bananas
• Popcorn
Of course, you want to be smart about these choices, too. Air popped corn is a much better choice than microwave popcorn, and “old fashioned” or “steel cut” oats provide much more fiber than instant oatmeal.

This week, get the fiber back in your diet by making really good choices for healthier carbs. Intestinal health and moods go right along together. You truly do have a good gut feeling about all of this!
