Afformations

Most of us are familiar with the benefit of using affirmations. For some people, affirmations meet with internal resistance, such as might happen if someone who needs (and wants) to weigh 20 pounds less, says, “I enjoy my ideal weight.”

The term for that internal resistance is cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance can be problematic in being your best self, but there are ways around it.

Afformations may be one more way you can support yourself emotionally and mentally and physically. Noah St. John came up with the term, and the trick is simple: switch from looking for an “answer” to asking yourself the right questions so you can take the right actions to bring about the changes you desire.

Bring to mind something you really want to have or do or be in your life. Now, begin to ask yourself daily, “Why am I able to have or do or be all that I want in my life?” Allow that question to float in the background of your thinking while you start taking appropriate actions.

The individual who wants to weigh 20 pounds less and be more fit and healthy, might join a gym, get a walking partner, or start yoga class. The mother who wants to be more patient might schedule a massage as part of her self-care, making it easier for her to care for her children. The man who wants a promotion might take a night class in his field, bringing new innovation to his job.

The main point is that your subconscious mind is going to be helping you find the answer through the actions you are taking. I used afformations to start getting my guided imagery audios available online. Everlasting Peace was first; Freedom from Pain is the second. Welcome Baby! should be available soon, too.

This week, integrate afformations into your life. Why does someone do a better job with the right tools?
